FAMILY REUNIFICATION
A safe return to family.
Support for the
journey ahead.
Our Haitian social workers help children reconnect with parents or relatives and prepare reunification when it is safe and appropriate.
Finding family and understanding separation.
When a child is separated from family, finding a safe way home takes time, professional care, and preparation. Our team traces relatives, verifies relationships, and listens to the child and caregivers. We explore why separation happened and what needs to change for the child to return safely. Financial hardship may be part of the story, alongside concerns about protection, health, education, or family relationships.
Preparing for a safe return home.
Through home visits and assessments, social workers consider caregiving capacity, household relationships, living conditions, and community resources. Together with the family and child, they develop an individual support plan that addresses identified needs and builds on the family’s strengths.

Counseling and supported contact help children and caregivers prepare emotionally. Practical planning addresses needs such as school access, healthcare, nutrition, and the transition home. IBESR provides the oversight and authorization required for placement decisions.

Staying after a child goes home.
Our promise does not end when a child goes home. Social workers continue with visits, counseling, and regular review of the family’s support plan. Where needed and resources allow, we coordinate education support, nutrition, healthcare access, and opportunities that help caregivers provide for their children.
As relationships grow and circumstances change, we adjust support with the family. Continued follow-up helps us recognize concerns early and respond before difficulties lead to another separation.
Our promise does not end when a child goes home.
