RESPONDING TO CRISIS
Safety today.
A path toward
family tomorrow.
Our Haitian team works alongside child protection authorities to help children reach safety and begin a carefully planned journey toward lasting care.
Protection begins with coordinated action.
When a child is separated from family, abused, exploited, or exposed to violence, immediate protection is urgent. Overture works alongside IBESR, Haiti’s child protection authority, and BPM, the Brigade for the Protection of Minors, to support authorized referrals and safe transfers. Authorities lead rescue and legal procedures, while our team contributes professional support to help children move into appropriate care.
Making room for healing.
A child arriving in crisis may be frightened, grieving, or unsure whom to trust. Our social workers listen, assess immediate needs, and provide psychosocial support. They coordinate with relevant providers to address medical needs and other concerns, helping each child begin to feel secure.

Planning beyond the immediate crisis.
Care planning begins during the crisis response. Social workers explore the child’s relationships, trace family members, and assess possible pathways to safe family care. Children are included in conversations about their future in ways appropriate to their age and understanding.
Some children need temporary protection and rehabilitation at the Southern Child Protection Complex. The length and type of support depend on the child’s circumstances. Our goal is a timely, carefully prepared transition that protects the child’s wellbeing.

Support that follows the child.
Crisis care is one part of a longer journey. Once a placement is approved and prepared, our team supports the transition and continues following up with children and caregivers. That continued relationship helps identify concerns and strengthen stability at home.
